"German Shorthaired Pointers since 1974"
Since 1989, the Mead Grounds Association, the Pointing Gun Dog Association, the Ruffed Grouse Society, and the Ralston Purina Company has hosted this special annual event in North Central Wisconsin.
During the fall of that year, a group of rough-shooting bird hunters and their dogs got together the weekend before opening day and the Woodcock Championship was born.
This unique field trial is the real thing. Held each year just prior to the hunting season, there are no planted birds or artificial situations. Native woodcock and grouse are our quarry, blank guns are our weapons. All birds are met in natural habitat of clearcut aspen and tag alder bottoms.
Our judges are your peers, with years of experience in the uplands and an eye for quality dog work and well-bred bird dogs.
Everything goes right for the winning dogs, while other top-notch contenders grace the trial ground uplands. Everyone goes home knowing their dog did the best it could under the conditions presented. So, put away the training books and pack up your hunting gear for the bird hunting season!
Join us as we enjoy our dogs, our favorite game birds, and the good company of fellow bird hunters with the same priorities in life.
