What is Iguanodon Smile?

Iguanodon Smile is a music publisher that is also acting as an independent CD label. It is dedicated to publishing the compositions of members of the bands Mad Melancholy Monkey Mind and Keg Salad, and of Mark Rich. With any luck, some ambitious independent label will take over the bands' recordings and leave Iguanodon Smile to just the music-publishing end of things.

I love Iggy, your logo! Where's the T-shirt?

Funny you should ask. Go here. You can get a wonderful T-shirt, and about a dollar or so of the cost gets sent to us eventually, to help our humble efforts.

Where did the name come from?

We don't exactly remember. Yet when it came to us, the response was obvious: two thumbs up.

What is an Iguanodon?

The Iguanodon was one of the first prehistoric reptiles to be classed as a dinosaur by early British paleontologists. They initially visualized it as a squat, four-footed thing. Later the more upright and upbeat interpretation of the fossil bones was developed.

As was the case with other saurischian dinosaurs, the fossilized bones of the Iguanodon included large, pointed, cone-shaped bones. In the classic Iguanodon images of the earlier 20th century, on which our "Iggy" logo is based, the dinosaur is depicted balanced on its hind feet, with the two hands held forward in thumbs-up position.

In the 1950s and '60s, three-dimensional plastic versions of this dinosaur appeared on countless playroom floors, as toys.

Do you have an e-mail newsletter?

Yes! Write to us at this address and request, "Newsletter, please." We will not deluge you with newsletters. We are currently aiming for monthly and not quite making it.

Why does the catalog include printed works in addition to CDs?

It's pretty simple. Mark Rich doesn't have any particular handy way of putting his various print projects up for sale. Iguanodon Smile is acting as a sales agent. While saying that, however, we don't say it's impossible that the Iguanodon Smile imprint will not appear on similar materials in the future.

Why was the band named Mad Melancholy Monkey Mind?

Because Mad Melancholy Monkey's Uncle Mind was too long.

Who took the picture on the front of the "Drive" CD?

Oops. We left off the photo credit: Martha took it.

Does the band have a website of its own?

It's brand new. You can find it here.
